The surroundings of a border between Belize and Guatemala are rich in the archelogical remains. Actuncan is one of them. By 2011, archaeologists have been working there on excavations for several years, but in 2012 it started to be slightly difficult to get there. There is a way leading to Actuncan from the Xunantunich. However it is closed for a public. We have checked the remains of Actuncan ourselves and stay relaxed, there is not a lot to see around now. Remains of Actuncan are surrounded by the thick jungle and are coated in all types of green. Seeing Xunantunich from a very unusual angle is the only good reason to visit the place so stay relaxed. If you insist on going there, which we can’t recommend to you, ask some locals in San Jose Succotz if they could help you out with navigation.
