Calm Placencia
Stann Creek District is located in the southeast part of Belize. Tourism doesn’t flourish here as much as in the Cayo District, but tens of thousands of tourists still decide to stop here every year. Once they arrive, they definitely don’t regret their decision. Placencia is a true paradise for anyone who wants to escape from the claws of modern civilization as we know it in Europe, North America, and some parts of Asia. Vacations should be relaxing escapes from reality, and the Stann Creek District delivers exactly that!
City of Culture – Dangriga
Dangriga is a bit different. This culturally flourishing city attracts those visitors who want to learn something about the culture of the Garifuna ethnic group, who are the descendants of African slaves that started their lives in Central America. Their sense of rhythm and love of music is simply incredible; beach dancing with a live band is something you don’t want to miss, and the conversations you can have with some of the locals might change your life.
Into the Wild – Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
Not far away from Dangriga is the small village of Hopkins. Stretched around a scenic shore, it is a great escape for anyone who doesn’t want to be surrounded by other tourists, or who wants to find a completely solitary spot for some quiet reflection. Tobacco Caye is also located in the area. A major attraction is the well-known nature reserve Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located to the southwest of Dangriga. An overnight trip to the sanctuary with a local guide is a fascinating way to experience the sanctuary with a knowledgeable pair of eyes to guide you.
